Earlier today, news came out that the Golden State Warriors President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Bob Myers would be stepping down from his role according to ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski.

In his time with the Warriors, Myers helped capture 4 NBA championships, won Executive of the Year twice in 2015 and 2017, and helped orchestrate one of the greatest free agency acquisitions in NBA History signing Kevin Durant after winning a NBA record 73 games.

In the report that Wojnarowski broke this morning, Myers said that he’s unsure of his professional NBA pathway but that if he decides to go back into basketball operation sides again, he can expect to be the top-heavy pursuit amongst all the teams in the league.

Enter the Phoenix Suns. It was reported back in January that if Myers steps down from his role, the Suns would be one of the teams monitoring the situation.

“According to sources close to the situation, Washington, Phoenix, and New York are all worth monitoring as possibilities.”

With Mat Ishbia in charge of Basketball Operations, it’s clear as day that Myers will most likely have another role in place with the team if he were to get hired. Myers’ ability to lead others has been a great track record during his time with the Warriors and it will be a proven commodity if he comes to the Suns.

“Myers’ blend of leadership, talent evaluation and the respect that he commands at every level of the industry — ownership, front office, coaches, players and agents — makes him a uniquely appealing part of a potential ownership group or front office.”

Suns Could be Interested in Bob Myers

Only time will tell but it’s most likely leaning towards Myers taking time off to be with family this offseason and regrouping later down the line with a team.
