There were reports that went around today that former Suns head coach Monty Williams is leaning towards more likely taking the 2023-24 season off after spending his last 4 seasons with the Suns.

Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported the news earlier today and talked about the story behind why this is the case.

“Williams was also recently pursued by Detroit for the Pistons’ job, sources said, which must have factored into a slowed result between Lee, Collins, and Ollie. At this moment, it appears Williams is more likely to take the next season off, with three years and $21 million remaining on his Suns deal than to return to the sidelines in a new situation.”

During his time in Phoneix, Williams led the Suns to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1993 and to the best record in their franchise’s history while winning NBA coach of the year one time during that stretch and being in the coach of the year twice.

Williams will forever be remembered for the success he brought to Phoenix and how much the culture changed because of his leadership. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took this season off to be with his family.
