Mercury Check Off Their First Win Of The Season, Defeat Lynx

Phoenix Mercury

The Mercury don’t have to wait any longer for their first win as they defeat the Minnesota Lynx tonight by a final score of 90-81. Diana Taurasi had a huge night dropping 23 points on 5-12 shooting. Brittney Griner was right behind her with 19 points and 8 boards.

Michaela Jefferson had 13 points on 5-13 shooting and Sophie Cunningham dropped 13 points while staying in foul trouble for the majority of the game which made her miss half of the fourth quarter.

Sug Sutton had a great night off the bench knocking down 14 points as she was the only player on the bench to score any points for the Mercury off the bench.

Aerial Powers Had the Mercury Sweating

Speaking of the bench, Aerial Powers was a bucket off the bench and I’m not talking about the Aerial from The Little Mermaid movie. Powers dropped 20 points after only having 3 points in the first quarter. She led the way for the team.

Jessica Shepard had 13 points on 5-9 shooting and Diamond Miller also had 13 points with the majority of it coming at the free throw line.

They scored 28 points in the paint but shot 20% from three which was ultimately their Achilles heel for the night.

Mercury Shot Lights Out From Three

The Mercury went absolutely berzerk from behind the three-point line as they shot a solid 46% from three while knocking down 13-28. They were also near perfect from the free throw line as they knocked down 18-19 of their attempts.

The Mercury will look to make it two in a row when they play the Los Angeles Sparks back at the Footprint Center tomorrow night.
