Mat Ishbia is set to make some moves yet again as the Suns and Mercury owner is going to get together with the city of Phoenix to bid on hosting the NBA and WNBA all-star games in the near future according to multiple reports.

They are connecting with the Governor’s office, the mayor’s office, as well as many more people in the Phoenix area to help build a presentation to the leagues they’re in to hopefully get the ok to have an all-star weekend come to their city.
Ishbia made a statement to Suns and Mercury fans about the new plans that they’re trying to achieve soon in the near future.
“We’re excited to partner with the city of Phoenix to engage the NBA and WNBA to bring both All-Star games to the Valley,” Suns and Mercury owner Mat Ishbia said in a statement. “Phoenix is one of the great basketball cities in the world and the perfect place to bring together the players and fans to celebrate the sport. The Phoenix Suns and Mercury want to continue finding new and important ways to partner with the city to bring real impact to our community.”
Phoenix has hosted the NBA all-star game three times going back to the years 1975, 1995, and most recently 2009. They’ve hosted the WNBA all-star game twice in 2000 and 2014.
The history that this city has shown for the all-star game as well as their latest Super Bowl year, a world baseball classic, and future 2024 Final Four makes it known that things may work out for Ishbia and his team when it comes to their bidding.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego also issued a statement explaining how Phoenix is heading in a new direction for the good at Footprint Center.
“We’re doing things differently in Phoenix, and the sports world has noticed,” Phoenix mayor Kate Gallego said in a statement. “From world-class facilities like Footprint Center to our sustainable, innovative transportation options like light rail or Waymo driverless taxis, Phoenix has everything we need to put on a successful major event like the WNBA and NBA All-Star games. I’m excited to support our bids to be a host city, and am looking forward to hearing positive news back from the WNBA and NBA!”
