It was a solid pitching performance from Merrill Kelly that shut down the Nationals. Kelly allowed just one run and struck out 10 batters in the seven innings he pitched. The Nationals lone run came in the form of a solo shot by Luis Garcia in the first inning.

Miguel Castro and Andrew Chafin also pitched a pair of shutout innings out of the bullpen to put the game away. Chafin has remained excellent this season, as he has only allowed a runner to score in one outing.

It must be the shirt…

On the offensive side, Corbin Carroll blasted his fifth homerun of the year with a solo homer in the third inning. Caroll has managed to keep his batting average above .300 for six games in a row, proving why he is the top NL Rookie of the Year candidate.

Christian Walker also stayed hot with his fifth multi-hit game in the past week. He is slashing 6/13 with three home runs in the month of May.

The win puts the Diamondbacks one game behind the Dodgers for first place in the NL West. They will be back in action tomorrow at 5:10, Tommy Henry will be on the mound.
