The Phoenix Suns are taking on the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs starting Sunday. Paul George is out for the Clippers, yet one man still remains, Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard is the closest thing I have ever seen to Michael Jordan. According to my personal eye test. The calm demeanor with the gravity-less like floating on his jump shots as well as the lack of wasted movements. Screams Michael Jordan to me.

Kawhi Leonard is Special

Without George, a lot of the load will land on Leonard to get his team rolling. A challenge that is right up his alley. We all saw what he did with the spurs early in his career.

He was the young guy who had the best perimeter defense in the league and also was able to score effortlessly when Duncan and Manu needed him most.

Before being injured in the 2015 playoffs, he was in route to lead the Spurs to back to back championships. Some would call it a dirty play by then Warriors forward who under cut him on a jump shot leading to his ankle and knee injury. An injury that had him sit out most of the next few seasons.

In 2019, Leonard was back to playing basketball at the highest level. This time it was in a Toronto Raptors jersey. He spent a little less than half of a season with the Raptors, yet his impact will forever be felt by Toronto faithful.

He hit huge shot after huge shot in that playoff run. As well as having a number of 30+ point performances. That playoff run was capped off by two things; his game winning corner jumper at the buzzer on mother’s day in Game 7 to send Joel Embiid and the 76ers home literally crying, and him getting his sweet revenge on the Warriors in the Finals.

The 2019 Championship that he brought to Toronto was not only a herculean effort by him. It was the first championship the Raptors ever won.

If history really does repeat its self, watch out. This playoff run by Kawhi Leonard could be very, very special.
