The D-Backs split the first series against them 2-2, however the Dodgers pitching held Arizona’s lineup to 2 or fewer runs in each of the 4 games.

Pitching Matchups Tonight – Diamondbacks/Dodgers

To bring in the 2023 season at Chase Field in front of the Phoenix faithful, Merrill Kelly will take the bump. Dustin May will take the mound for the Dodgers.

In Kelly’s first start of the season, he pitched 3.2 innings, striking out four batters and holding the Dodgers scoreless.

On the other end, Dustin May pitched an absolute gem in his first outing of the season. Pitching 7 complete innings, holding the D-Backs scoreless and also striking out four batters.

Odds for the Home Opener

The Dodgers are slight favorites tonight in Phoenix, the money line sits at -150 for Los Angeles, while the run line is +104. The D-Backs are +128 on the money line.

The over/under on this game is 8.5 slightly juiced to the over at -112. With Kelly and May on the mound I will be on the under 8.5 tonight. Look for Kelly to go deeper than he did in his first start, which was cut short due to his participation in the World Baseball Classic.

Yes the Diamondbacks bats picked up against the Padres on Monday and Tuesday scoring a combined 12 runs. However I do believe that the Padres pitching was the blame for most of that.

I see this game being low scoring with both starters pitching gems into the 7th inning.

My bold prediction, Dodgers win 4-2.
