A win is definitely needed for the Phoenix Suns on Friday. The Suns are traveling to take on the turned-juggernaut in the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings currently own the third best record in the Western Conference, with the Suns being a little ways behind them in fourth place.

Taking down Sacramento without two starters will be a challenge for Phoenix. Kevin Durant and Deandre Ayton both remain out with their respective injuries.

Despite that, the Suns were able to take a 67-56 lead over the Kings at the end of the first half.

Monty’s Free Throw Message Gets Through

Head coach Monty Williams made waves with his comments following the Suns’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Given the criticism on the referees’ lack of foul calling, it was expected to see an increase in free throw attempts on Friday for Phoenix.

Given that, the Suns attempted 10 free throws attempts in the first half. Devin Booker led the way with five attempts in the half.

While the number of attempts isn’t what’s to be totally desired, it’s noted that the Kings only attempted four free throws.

Phoenix has had an issue with getting to the line dating back to earlier in the season. Having Durant in the lineup will surely ease some of those concerns.

Being able to convert on their attempts without Durant, however, is impressive in a must-win road game.

Jock is Locked In

Jock Landale and Bismack Biyombo have alternated in the bigs lineup based off need. While Biyombo does normally get the start, Landale had a larger impact on the first half.

Paul had assists to end the half, some of which Landale was thankful for. The Australian big finished the half with 14 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the field. He also had four rebounds.

Finding himself as the end result of a Paul-screen helped Landale find success tonight.

On the opposite end, Domantas Sabonis is matching the energy from Landale. Landale is no Ayton on defense, and Sabonis has made sure to take advantage of the matchup. Sabonis ended the half with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists.
