The NFL playoffs have begun with Wild Card weekend wrapping up Monday night. After four straight blowouts, the opening slate was finally saved with an incredible finish between Washington and Tampa Bay. Tied up at 20-20 with just seconds left, the Commanders had a chance to win their first playoff game since 2006. With the game on the line, Washington sent out Zane Gonzalez to try a 37 yard field goal and the former Arizona State star came up clutch.

Barely.

The kick immediately started drifting to the right and headed for the upright. Then with a stroke of luck, it doinked off the upright and in for the walk-off.

The dramatic finish is an incredible high note to what has been a challenge start to Gonzalez’ career. Washington is his 4th team in 7 years. He was even on the practice squad until December when a series of injuries to Washington’s kickers gave him an opportunity. The Commanders have used four kickers this year, with Gonzalez being the last. And that decision might very well have extended this former ASU star’s career.

Washington advances not to face the Detroit Lions in the divisional round.
