D-backs’ Perdomo speaks about comeback over Cardinals:

After falling behind 7-0, Perdomo revealed that bench coaches Jeff Banister and Dave McKay challenged the clubhouse instead of accepting defeat per Nick King of AZCentral. Rather than allowing frustration to settle in, the veteran coaches demanded a response, refusing to let the team mentally check out, and their message resonated. That matters because baseball seasons are built on resilience. Every contender has talent, though a huge separator is often found inside the dugout, where leaders manage emotions just as much as lineups.

Arizona’s response validated the coaching staff’s influence. Players didn’t simply stage a comeback because they were capable; they believed the game was still winnable because the voices they trust told them it was.
That type of credibility cannot be manufactured. Coaches earn it over months and years through preparation, accountability, and consistency. When veteran players like Perdomo publicly credit assistant coaches instead of focusing solely on the offense or pitching, it speaks to the respect those leaders command throughout the clubhouse.

For Diamondbacks fans, that’s perhaps the biggest takeaway. MLB postseason contenders rarely avoid adversity, though they find ways to overcome it. If Banister and McKay can consistently inspire that kind of response when games seem out of reach, Arizona possesses something every postseason contender covets, which is a clubhouse that refuses to quit.
