GLENDALE – Despite just settling into the Valley, new Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is already hard at work recruiting. The recent news cycle has started a rumor of free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers could join Arizona this season.

The 42-year-old hasn’t re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, even after the hiring of head coach Mike McCarthy, which has fans wondering what is the wait. The Cardinals are in desperate need of a starting-level QB, and Bourne added more fuel to the fire with his X post on Tuesday.

Bourne wants Rodgers to join Cardinals:

The likely answer for why Rodgers hasn’t signed with a team so far is because he’s contemplating retirement. He just finished his 21st season in the NFL, and despite impressive stats for his age, Rodgers might want to close the chapter in his Hall of Fame career. However, if the 10-time Pro Bowler wishes to continue, Arizona still wouldn’t make sense.

The franchise already has three quarterbacks on the roster, Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Mishew and Carson Beck. There was a hitch earlier in the offseason, with reports of Brissett looking for a contract extension and more guaranteed money heading into the 2026 season. If the two sides can’t agree on a deal, general manager Monti Ossenfort could trade Brissett, which opens the door for a possible Rodgers signing.

Even if Brissett was off the roster, using a third-round pick on a 24-year-old Beck, who will be 25 in November, seems like the obvious option to be a starter. The Cardinals need to gauge what Beck can produce on the NFL level. If he fails, then Ossenfort is picking near the top of the 2027 NFL draft, which has a much better quarterback class. Rodgers doesn’t fit the rebuilding team’s timeline, regardless of Bourne’s desire.
