According to 247Sports’ Travis Branham, JRob Croy has flipped his commitment from Saint Mary’s to ASU. The 6-foot-5 guard from Riverside, California, had originally pledged to Saint Mary’s but chose to follow Bennett after the longtime coach moved to Tempe.
“My loyalty is definitely with Coach Bennett,” Croy said to 247Sports, adding that the chance to compete in the Big 12 and help rebuild Arizona State “is a great challenge.”

The flip in commitment offers an immediate recruiting win for Bennett as he helps reshape a program that has struggled to find consistency in recent years. The Sun Devils’ move to the Big 12 has only heightened the stakes, and landing a versatile guard known for shooting and leadership helps set the foundation of the transition. Croy is ranked No. 124 nationally and No. 17 among combo guards in his class.
Croy helped lead Riverside Polytechnic High School to a league title and a deep postseason run, and on the AAU circuit averaged 13.5 points and six assists per game while shooting 39% from beyond the arc.

The addition signals a renewed direction under Bennett and has already made an immediate impact, only days after his hiring. It also reflects a broader trend in college sports, where recruits follow trusted coaches rather than remain tied to schools. Croy’s ties to Saint Mary’s highlight the significance of his choice to pivot.
Croy’s commitment isn’t just about a single roster addition but rather a cultural emphasis. Following a seasoned coach with playoff experience emphasizes his trust in Bennett and his desire to bring his leadership to Arizona State as it looks to rebuild its identity.

ASU’s rebrand is now in full force, even in the early days of Bennett’s tenure as head coach of the program.
