LOS ANGELES — The Phoenix Suns’ rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers could take on a new edge after a report from Bleacher Report suggested a potential trade scenario between the two teams.

Reporter Dan Favale suggested the Lakers target Dillon Brooks, an idea that has drawn attention from across the NBA.

Brooks is known for his physical defense and outspoken personality, traits that have helped shape the Suns’ identity this season. Alongside Devin Booker, he has pushed Phoenix toward success against opponents of all kinds, particularly against Los Angeles.

If a deal were to be made, what would it mean for the Suns?

From one standpoint, it could disrupt a team that has already figured out how to play together. A move like this would represent a significant shift, with no guarantee it would benefit the roster in the short term. It would also signal that the front office is prioritizing lineup balance over edge, something Brooks consistently brings every night.

From another perspective, the move could feel like a betrayal to Suns fans. After years of underwhelming seasons, this core has restored hope in the Valley, rekindling memories of past highs. Brooks has quickly become a fan favorite for being the heartbeat of the team and trading him would undoubtedly negatively impact the Phoenix faithful.

There is also the rivalry factor. Brooks already has a history with the Lakers, including star LeBron James. In their most recent meetings, both players have elevated their intensity when facing each other. If they were to wear the same uniform, it remains unclear how that tension would translate into on-court chemistry.

While the report does not guarantee Brooks’ move, for an analyst to suggest a franchise like Los Angeles to consider trading for Phoenix pieces means the team has built something worth noticing.

Ultimately, the decision will rest with the Suns’ front office on whether to entertain a trade involving Brooks or continue believing this group is capable of achieving much more.
