GLENDALE – Quarterback Kyler Murray’s time in the Valley seems to be coming to an end this offseason. However, ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss believes there is only one series of events that the Arizona Cardinals keep Murray on their roster. The two-time Pro Bowler was essentially benched after week 9 by head coach Jonathan Gannon and the team. The team is 0-8 after that game, leading to Gannon being on the hot seat to losing his job, which is part one of keep Murray in Arizona.

The only scenario where Murray stays in Arizona:

Owner Michael Bidwill would have to fire both Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort to just have an “outside chance” of the 28-year-old staying the franchise. Murray lost a starting job he’s held for seven years because of injury, which immediately burns the trust between himself and the organization. Outside of a few cryptic social media posts, Murray has stayed silent from the media, but the embarrassing demotion in 2025 could be unfixable.

When speaking with the media on Monday, Gannon stated he felt confident that he’ll be coaching in 2026. The relationship between the third-year Cardinals coach and Murray has taken a complete 180, with the only way this ends is one of the two leaving the franchise. With Arizona at 3-13 and looking towards the draft, Ossenfort could look to offload Murray’s big contract and try to find a new starting quarterback with a top five pick.
