ATLANTA — DeWanna Bonner knows how to make an impact when the playoffs roll around, and she’s learned much of that during her time with the Phoenix Mercury.
Now, she’s carrying that experience with her into Atlanta.

The former Mercury forward helped the Dream take Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals against the New York Liberty. She finished with 23 points and nine rebounds off the bench after Atlanta lost Allisha Gray to injury. It was her highest-scoring game since joining the Dream, and it came in a role that has been familiar for the veteran when teams have needed her the most.
That role was evident in Phoenix last season.

After beginning the 2025 season in Indiana, Bonner returned to the Mercury midseason and quickly became an important piece of Phoenix’s postseason rotation, embracing a bench role while providing scoring, versatility and the kind of playoff experience that can’t be taught.
Bonner’s contributions helped the Mercury reach the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2021. Her value wasn’t always measured by how many points she scored, but rather by her readiness when her number was called.
That same formula is now playing out in Atlanta.

Bonner joined the Dream after reaching a buyout agreement with the Mercury before the end of the 2026 season, allowing her to continue her career in Atlanta while taking on a different role. When Gray went down, Bonner stepped up without disrupting momentum or rhythm. She attacked the basket, knocked down key 3-pointers and handled the pressure that comes with a semifinal game.
The Mercury have come to know this version of Bonner during her time in the Valley. Now, the Dream is getting a chance to see it, too.
