GLENDALE – As the Arizona Cardinals stumble through a 3-6 stretch, head coach Jonathan Gannon has sent a clear message that he doesn’t believe there will be any firings on his staff for now. Rather than sweeping changes, he’s chosen to double down on process, accountability, and coaching cohesion. That stance is bold, given the franchise’s recent habit of quick turnover.

The unique insight here is that retaining the staff now is less a defense of past mistakes than an offensive move, one that bets on culture, growth, and stability. Gannon’s staff has brought in relatively young assistants and has shown flashes of scheme innovation.  With penalty counts mounting and execution faltering, the decision to hold firm says the coach believes those issues aren’t rooted in coaching change-fatigue, but in fixable breakdowns.

From a strategic standpoint, the move matters because if you fire staff mid-season, you start a reset that impacts continuity, player trust, and recruiting. Keeping the staff may smooth out learning curves, speed up mid-season adjustments, and benefit the team both locally, for Arizona fans desperate for progress.

On the other hand, this could very well be the wrong move. Emotionally, this resonates with fans weary of the revolving door. The message that Gannon believes, that Arizona is in it for the long haul with no quick patches, could be. It also ramps up pressure and higher stakes for every play, every mistake. If Arizona doesn’t markedly improve its situational metrics, the “we’ll keep the staff” situation could look defensive rather than proactive.
