GLENDALE – All signs are starting to lean towards the Arizona Cardinals relying on backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett to make his first start with the team. Current starter Kyler Murray is battling with a foot injury he suffered in the third quarter vs. the Tennessee Titans. Brissett came in for two plays before Murray return from the injury, but his progress throughout the week hasn’t been encouraging for head coach Jonathan Gannon, leading to Brissett being a viable option.

Brissett on his mindset heading into Week 6:
The main reason why Brissett signed with the Cardinals this past offseason was because his relationship with offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. The pair were with the Cleveland Browns for the 2022 season, Brissett as a backup and Petzing as the quarterbacks coach. In 11 games, the 32-year-old had a record of 4-7 and threw for 2,608 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

The 2022 season was the time Brissett appeared in double digits games in a year since 2019. He has the right to be confident under the coaching of Petzing with the amount of games the duo have dealt together in Cleveland.
Brissett has been working with top offensive targets in Trey McBride and Mavin Harrison Jr. in practice heavily this week. The practice reps and reports surrounding the team has indicated that Brissett will likely get the nod to start on Sunday. However, Brissett, Gannon and others inside the team are keeping it close to the chest on the status for Week 6. Despite the secrecy, Brissett’s confidence should be an encouraging sign for Cardinals fans.
