GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals face a real dilemma for Sunday’s game vs. the Indianapolis Colts, as starting quarterback Kyler Murray’s foot injury has his status in question. Head coach Jonathan Gannon states that there is a real possibility for backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett to get his first start with the team if Murray’s condition doesn’t improve.

Gannon on the what Brissett brings to Cardinals:
For the crummy situation Arizona is position, Brissett is one of the best options an NFL team can have as a backup. The 10-year veteran has been a backup for five teams in his career and has earned the reputation of being a premier backup quarterback in the league. Brissett had the most success in his four seasons with the Colts, which would be an ironic twist of fate if he starts Sunday’s game against them.
Brissett is a game manager and smart with the ball, having a 1.4 interception percentage. In his five starts in 2024, he threw for 826 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing’s scheme is more run-heavy, which puts less of the pressure on Brissett to make throws. The injuries to running backs James Conner and Trey Benson has caused Petzing to dial back the frequency of the run actions. However, the offense remains focus on controlling the ground game as much as possible.
While losing a two-time Pro Bowler in Murray would be devasting, Brissett is one of the best options the franchise could hope for to end the team’s three-game losing streak.
