TEMPE — Arizona State kicker Jesus Gomez has been named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his game-winning kick on Saturday night against Baylor.

The ASU senior played a pivotal role in the team’s 27-24 win over the Bears, with his 43-yard field goal serving as the difference. He made all four of his field goal attempts and tallied 13 points in the victory.

The kicker position was a problem Arizona State struggled to solve last year. Head coach Kenny Dillingham was so frustrated with the team’s lack of a reliable kicker that he said they would hold tryouts after a loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats on Oct. 19, 2024.
This year, Gomez has been the solution the Sun Devils have needed in the kicking department. He has made 90% of his field goals, 100% of his extra points, scored 39 points, and his longest made field goal was from 51 yards.
