The D-Backs were able to break their seven game-losing streak, relying on Zac Gallen leading the way. Gallen gave up nine hits but only allowed two earned runs in six solid innings pitched, as he was able to navigate through tough stretches and rely on run support.Â

It hasn’t been the strongest season for Gallen, as he has an 8-12 record with a 5.48 ERA, and hasn’t looked the same as he did in his 2023 season, where he was in contention for the Cy Young award. Gallen’s trade stock dropped off a cliff after his slow start this season, as the D-Backs were unable to get any value back. Questions have been surrounding on what Gallen’s future is with the D-Backs, now that the trade deadline has passed.

What lies ahead for Zac Gallen after Saturday’s outing? If he keeps this upward trend, more eyes will be on the right-hander as he enters free agency. There is a possibility, too, that Gallen stays with the D-Backs if he decides to sign his one-year qualifying offer for $22 million. The market right now is uncertain for Gallen, though these strong performances will only help his case to get a larger contract entering the offseason.Â

It was a welcome sight to see for the D-Backs as Zac Gallen was poised and efficient. His command by mixing the cutter and curveball to keep hitters guessing was on display on Saturday. Gallen’s only blemish came in the third inning after giving up a double to Tyler Soderstrom that scored two runs. Arizona’s offense ended up giving him plenty of breathing room as the D-Backs received a much-needed win and jolt of energy. Though the highlight of their victory on Saturday, started with Gallen’s performance. With more outings like that, the conversation of keeping Gallen around for years to come, might become more serious as the offseason is right around the corner.
