PHOENIX – As the NBA season creeps towards the offseason, the Kevin Durant rumors continue to heat up. The Phoenix Suns are expected to find a suitor for Durant before this month’s NBA draft, with many teams interested, including a contender in the New York Knicks. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Phoenix and New York discussed a potential Durant deal at the NBA trade deadline and talks could reheat in the summer.

Charania on Suns-Knicks Durant Trade:

“The Knicks – there was some mutual interest between Kevin Durant and the Knicks at the trade deadline. The Knicks made an offer for Kevin Durant at the trade deadline. Obviously there was no Kevin Durant trade – we’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks – do they go star hunting? But at the bare minimum, they’re going to have to add some more depth – that’s going to be a requirement of this team.”

Durant played with the Brooklyn Nets and could return to the Big Apple playing in Madison Square Garden with the Knicks. The 15-time All-Star is coming off a 26.6 point season on 52.7% shooting and looks just as a good at 36 years old than he did at 26 years old. Teams will still be hesitant to trade for a star with an injury history and on the last year of his contract.

Any potential suitor for the former MVP will likely figure out an extension with Durant before pulling the trigger on any trade. New York is top heavy, and with much of their picks heading to Brooklyn in the Mikal Bridges trade, it would only hope to swap star players to secure Durant. Karl-Anthony Towns name has been thrown as a potential piece of a deal, reuniting with his college teammate Devin Booker in Phoenix.

That trade would surely keep Booker happy with the Suns and keep them competitive, as they still don’t control their first-round picks in the foreseeable future. General manager Brian Gregory has a lot of check list in this offseason, none of which can start until he trades Durant to give the team more flexibility in free agency.
