PHOENIX – The 32-year-old Belgium golfer Thomas Detry punched his first PGA tour win at the 2025 Waste Management Phoenix Open finishing -24 after the four-day tournament. This is Detry’s second professional win, but his first at the PGA since he started competing back in 2019. Entering “The People’s Open,” Detry was a massive underdog at +9000 to bring home the win but defied all the odds.

It was mostly smooth sailing for Detry, who came in the final round with a massive five-stroke lead. He maintained the multi-stroke lead over second place Daniel Berger, who had a strong day shooting five under par to narrow the gap to as close as two strokes in the front nine. However, the back nine saw the 58th ranked golfer in the world not crumble under the pressure shooting four straight birdies for the final four holes.
Detry settled into a zone and didn’t lose focus despite the sizable lead. His composure and picture perfect swing helped him hit a sensational dagger birdie on the iconic 16th hole.

That shot by Detry’s allowed him to finish Round 4 six strokes under par, ending the Phoenix Open with a score of 260. It’s the best four-day score since Phil Mickelson tied the course record in 2013 with a score of 256. The Belgium golfer takes a massive chunk of the $8.8 million purse as well as the Waste Management Phoenix Open trophy for his first PGA win ever.
