PHOENIX –NBA announced Friday that Phoenix Suns rookie Ryan Dunn has been named as a replacement player for the Castrol Rising Stars game. Dunn was one of four replacement players, including Orlando Magic guard Anthony Black, Detroit Pistons guard Ausar Thompson, and former Sun draftee and current Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara.

Dunn was originally snubbed from the initial Rising Star game roster, which included 28 players, 10 of them rookies. However, Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Jared McCain underwent season-ending injury to repair a lateral meniscus tear, which led to Dunn’s selection. The 28th pick is averaging 7.2 points on the season and shooting 45% from the field while being a pest on the defensive end.

The 22-year-old joins the pool of 28 players who will be drafted into four separate teams. The teams will then play in a tournament until one winner is crowned. The winning squad of the four rising stars teams will join the NBA All-Stars on Sunday night as the fourth team in their tournament and battle it out.

Dunn will be the 12th Suns player to compete in the Rising Star game, and the first since Deandre Ayton in 2020.
