After starting the Arizona Fall League with just one hit in 25 at-bats, Tommy Troy finally got the bat rolling with a three-hit game plus a couple of runs scored on Thursday.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Troy, the Diamondbacks’ first-round pick (12th overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft, wasted no time making an impact. In his first at-bat, he lined a triple to center, driving in a run and giving his team an early lead. After an infield pop-up in the third inning, Troy added a double in the fifth, though he was later picked off. His most exciting moment came in the seventh, when he launched his first home run of the Fall League, giving his team a 6-5 advantage.
The 2024 season was a tough one for Troy, who battled injuries and played in only 72 games, posting a .234 batting average in that span. His season with the Hillsboro Hops (High-A) ended on a tough note, as he recorded seven strikeouts in his final five games.
Reflecting on his struggles, Troy told Nick Piecoro of AZ Central, “I need to be that guy. Regardless of how I’m performing, that needs to be me.”
Unfortunately, during his breakout game on Thursday, Troy fell a single short of the cycle when he was called out on strikes in the bottom of the 8th. Nevertheless, he still tripled his hit total in the AZFL and built some positive momentum as he seeks a turnaround 2025 season.
