From his massive collection of catchphrases to the way he intellectually told a story throughout each and every game, McCoy kept generations of Suns fans engaged for years as they have enjoyed cheering on their hometown team.

Another person who is not directly correlated with the Suns but grew up in Phoenix listening to McCoy was ASU football head coach Kenny Dillingham.
“You grew up listening to him. When you think of sports and you are thinking of a voice, there he is over and over again,” Dillingham said on Monday at a media availability. “You can almost hear him in your sleep. He is obviously an icon here, somebody that everybody who is from here knows and can relive his voice. He is an absolute icon here.”
McCoy was inducted into the Suns Ring of Honor in 2017, the highest award from the franchise given to the most prominent players, staff and other important figures the organization has ever had.
As time goes by, McCoy will be remembered as one of the best broadcasters to ever grace a sports team, if he hasn’t been already. Personal stories and memories will continue to be revealed as more people recognize all of what he has done throughout his life.
