Cardinals vs. Bills Thursday injury report: Joey Blount joins Xavier Weaver on list on non-participants, Reiman still limited

Arizona Cardinals safety Joey Blount (32) defends a pass during training camp at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Monday, July 29, 2024.

In their second injury report ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, the Arizona Cardinals have two players who did not participate in Thursday’s practice and one player remains limited. The Cardinals take on the Bills Sunday at Highmark Stadium, with kickoff set for 10:00 A.M. MST.

Here is the full injury report for Thursday’s practice.

Did Not Participate

Cardinals

  • WR Xavier Weaver (oblique)
  • S Joey Blount (back)

Bills

  • DE Javon Solomon (oblique)

Blount joins Weaver on the list of non-participants in Thursday’s practice with a back injury. He was not listed on Wednesday’s injury report, so this could be a recent injury. The reserve safety/special teamer’s impact would likely be more felt in the kicking game, with starting safeties Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson healthy.

With back-to-back DNPs for Weaver, his availability for Sunday is in doubt. If he can’t suit up, then running back Deejay Dallas would likely serve as the Cardinals’ primary kickoff and punt returner.

Limited Participation

Cardinals

  • TE Tip Reiman (ankle)

Bills

  • No players listed

Reiman is listed as a limited participant for the second day in a row. His availability will likely determine what they do with their tight ends, with Trey McBride and Elijah Higgins. McBride is more of the typical in-line tight end whereas Higgins is more of the big receiver type of tight end who can line up in multiple spots on the field. Reiman profiles more as a pure blocker tight end in multiple tight end sets, but the Cardinals will need to be able to run the ball to beat the Bills so he’s an under-the-radar player to monitor.

Full Participation

Cardinals

  • No players listed

Bills

  • S Cole Bishop (shoulder)
  • TE Quintin Morris (shoulder)
  • WR Curtis Samuel (toe)
  • QB Mitch Trubisky (knee)

The Cardinals did not list a single player as a “full participant” but we can assume no news is good news for the 50 players whose status aren’t mentioned in this injury report. Despite a couple of impactful injuries to the front seven, the team is relatively healthy entering their season opener.
