It was a successful week for the Diamondbacks’ minor league system as three different players were awarded Player of the Week honors in their respective leagues.

Starting with Triple-A, Tima Tawa of the Reno Aces was named Batter of the Week. A former 11th-round pick in the 2021 draft from Stanford University, Tawa is playing in Triple-A this season for the first time in his minor league career. Since being promoted to the Aces on August 20th, the 25-year-old from Oregon has hit safely in five of his six games.
On Sunday, during the Aces’ 21-run onslaught against the Las Vegas Aviators, Tawa went 3-for-5 at the plate, including a pair of doubles. Playing a mix of first base and left field, Tawa concluded the week with an impressive .429 batting average and a 1.452 OPS.
In Double-A, A.J. Vukovich of the Amarillo Sod Poodles posted multi-hit games in four of his five appearances last week, earning him Player of the Week honors. The former 4th-round draft pick out of high school in 2021 is playing his second full season with the Sod Poodles. With two home runs last week, he now has 16 on the season, along with 25 doubles.
Lastly, Roman Angelo was named High-A Pitcher of the Week following a stellar seven-inning shutout performance, where he struck out nine batters and allowed just two hits. Two starts before that, Angelo struck out 10 batters over seven innings. In total, this season with the Hillsboro Hops, the 24-year-old has recorded 95 strikeouts in 81 innings on the mound.
