Women’s golf halfway done in Paris 2024 Olympics, all 5 former ASU Sun Devils outside top 20

The women’s golf tournament of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 is halfway completed, with two rounds down and two rounds to go for the ASU representatives Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Munoz (Spain), Linn Grant (Sweden), Alessandra Fanali (Italy) and Alexandra Försterling (Germany) to regain some ground.

All five Sun Devils are outside of the top 20 after the second round on Thursday as Grant is the highest of the group, sitting in a four-way tie for 22nd with a 1-over par.  Munoz skyrocketed from No. 50 with a 6-over to 29 with a 3-over.

Ciganda dropped from No. 26 with a 1-over down to 47 with a 7-over, in a tie with Försterling who was No. 40 with a 4-over as well as Fanali who was 3-over on Wednesday before the trio of former Arizona State golfers plummetted.

Morgane Metraux (Switzerland) currently leads the competition of 60 golfers with a 6-under 66 to reach 8-under. She had a 2-under par two nights ago and was 10-under at one stage with two eagles and four birdies on Thursday.

Yin Ruoning (China) sits in second with the best round on Thursday, a 7-under 65.

  12. Rose Zhang (United States): -2
  13. Nelly Korda (United States): -2
  14. Hsu Wei-ling (Taiwan): -1
  15. Diksha Dagar (Indian): -1
  16. Lilia Vu (United States): -1
  17. Amy Yang (South Korea): -1
  18. Aditi Ashok: (India): -1
  19. Maja Stark (Sweden): Even
  20. Gaby LĂłpez (Mexico): Even

In golf, every golfer who started in the tournament is still eligible to medal as long as they can finish with a top 3 score. Playoffs are needed to determine who wins the gold, silver and bronze medals if there is a tie.

Golf Channel and the streaming service Peacock will carry the action for the remainder of the tournament. The third round of the Olympics begins at midnight PT on Friday.
