After officially announcing that Phoenix will be hosting the 2027 All-Star weekend festivities, commissioner Adam Silver sat down with the Suns’ broadcast booth to discuss how Mat Ishbia managed to achieve such a feat just a year after taking over as owner.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Silver offered tremendous praise to the Suns’ owner, as well as to the city itself, noting, “This [Phoenix] is a wonderful community; people love to come here.”
When asked what specifically led Silver to choose Phoenix, he stated, “If I had to name one factor, it was Mat Ishbia’s enthusiasm.”
Silver also commented on potential plans to improve the All-Star game, which has recently become a significant controversy as getting players to care has become a serious issue for the NBA.
On the bright side, as the commissioner pointed out, the league still has three more years to figure out how to make All-Star weekend must-see TV.
In addition to securing the NBA All-Star game, it should also be noted that Mat Ishbia landed the WNBA All-Star game in Phoenix this summer. He has become the quickest owner to secure both events in such a short period of time.
