The Suns sent out Metu, Yuta Watanabe and a 2026 first-round pick to the Grizzlies earlier today. They also traded Jordan Goodwin, Keita Bates-Diop and three second-round picks to the Brooklyn Nets. In exchange, the Suns received Royce O’Neale and David Roddy.
Goodwin is also reportedly being waived by Brooklyn.
Metu signed with the Suns on a one-year, veteran minimum deal on the first day of free agency last summer. The 6-foot-9, 26-year-old Metu appeared in 37 games for Phoenix, starting five of them, and averaging 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 12.1 minutes. Metu had been on and off in the rotation and really didn’t fall completely out of it until the Suns’ loss to the Pacers on Jan. 26. With Bol Bol, Josh Okogie and now O’Neale and Roddy, there was really no pathway to him getting back in the rotation.
Now, Metu will try to find a new team as a free agent or be claimed off waivers in the next 48 hours. He should have a market for his services given his versatile size and upside.
