Kevin Durant was dumbfounded when he learned Joel Embiid scored 70 points

After scoring a season-high 43 points and hitting an insane game-winner, Kevin Durant had to take a second to process all that transpired in the NBA yesterday.

On the 18-year anniversary of Kobe Bryant scoring 81, Joel Embiid surpassed Wilt Chamberlain for the most points in a single-game in Philadelphia 76ers history with 70 points to go along with 18 rebounds in a victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Karl Anthony-Towns broke his own single-game Minnesota Timberwolves’ record with 62 points and cashed in 10 threes in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

Durant, who has a career high of 55 points, was left dumbfounded when he found out Embiid scored 70 points.

“70? He had 70? S—!” Durant told Burn City Sports after the game. “I mean the skill level in this league is insane.”

The fact that all three of these players are over 6-foot-10 makes this night even more unique.

“The coaching, the schemes on offense is insane,” Durant said. “You’re seeing so many different sets being run for bigs to get 3s. I mean, coaches are being way more creative to put their best players in great positions to get those numbers, and you got shooters all around the floor. You got penetrators. I mean, this is the peak of basketball in my opinion. And you’re seeing it what guys doing (that). I mean, come on man. Bigs, we got bigs in the league getting 70 and 60, making nine or 10 3s, shooting pull-up jump shots. It’s insane what we got going on.”

To further matters, Durant said on his way out that Embiid, who is averaging 35 points per game, “might be the best scorer of all time. Y’all keep saying I am.”

Durant has inspired a lot of bigs with his play style. Now, the big-man shooting revolution across the league appears to be happening right before our eyes. Safe to say, Durant is loving this high-level basketball.
