Sunnyslope and Highland Basketball Preview

Spread the love

The Sunnyslope Vikings Varsity Boys basketball team will host the Highland Hawks on Wednesday, Jan. 3 @ 7 p.m. MST.

Sunnyslope Picking It Up

After losing their first two games at the Damien Classic, the Vikings (8-4) ended it with two straight victories against La Mirada and Heritage Christian.

The team’s star player has been sophomore guard John Mattingly. He is currently averaging 22 points per game, which leads the Vikings by a wide margin.

While Sunnyslope has had a couple of losing stretches, they have also proven that they can compete with and defeat high-level teams consistently.

Highland Stay Elite

The Hawks (10-3) have once again dominated this season, as they’ve outscored opponents 775-627 and proven to be an elite 6A team.

Highland finished last season with a 30-4 record and were named 6A champions with their victory against the Brophy College Prep Broncos.

The team has won five of their last six games. Their last loss came against the McClintock Chargers during the McClintock Holiday Shootout.

Both Highland and Sunnyslope are ranked as top-15 teams in the state right now, making this a crucial and competitive matchup on Wednesday.
