The Salpointe Catholic Lancers Varsity Boys Soccer team is now up to the No. 3 ranked team in the entire state.

The Lancers are coming off a season where they finished with a 23-2 record and were named 4A conference champions. The team has won the last three 4A conference championships and it has become clear that they are on a different level than every other team in the conference.

They have started this current season with a 9-1-1 record with their lone loss being to the 10-3 Hamilton Huskies. Despite the loss, the team is outscoring opponents 35-12 and dominating each game.
Salpointe’s Superstar
While the entire team and coaching staff have been incredible for the Lancers, junior forward Leo Gutierrez has scored at will this season. The captain has scored 26 of the team’s 35 goals this season and has also assisted on three more.

Gutierrez has shown that he can score at the level of anyone in the state throughout his high school career and he has been a leading factor of the team’s success.
Next Matchup
Salpointe Catholic’s next match-up is against the No. 1 team in Arizona, the Sunnyside Blue Devils. They are currently 15-0-1 and have outscored opponents 84-10 this season.
While the Lancers are an incredible team, this will be a difficult game for them and one that will take preparation. Make sure to not miss this one as the top teams in the 4A and 6A face off against each other on Wednesday, Jan. 10 @ 6 p.m.
