The Mountain Lions (7-6) pulled off an incredible upset last week as they defeated No. 1 ranked Brophy Prep 36-35. Despite finishing 4-6 in the regular season, they knew the playoffs were an entirely different atmosphere where anything could happen.

Despite pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the year, the team is making sure to stay focused and not let the stakes of the game get to their heads.

“We aren’t really looking at the week any different. It’s another game for us,” junior nickel/outside linebacker Jacob Redwing said. “We’re still going to practice how we always have and study film like we always have.”

They now have an opportunity to pull off another upset and take home the 6A championship as the No. 12 seed.

“We are extremely grateful as a team to have the opportunity to play for a state championship,” Red Mountain defensive end Seth Barron said.

When/Where To Tune In

The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 2 @ noon at Arizona State University’s Mountain America Stadium.

Saguaros’ Dominant Playoff Run

The Sabercats (8-5) are averaging 47.6 points a game in their three playoff matchups this month. The team is coming off dominating victories and hitting on all cylinders.

“Our whole team has been dialed in at practice. We are playing complementary football and as of right now, we can’t be stopped. This is nothing new for us,” Saguaro junior offensive lineman Peyton Clemons said.

Despite facing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, the Sabercats stayed determined and focused to get to this point.

Saguaro senior running back Jaedon Matthews has dominated all season long, totaling over 1000 yards and 18 touchdowns in just 12 games. Matthews is ready to put it all on the line in his final career high school game.

“I have immense love for my team and we are prepared for an all-out battle for the championship,” Matthews said.

Both teams are completely focused and know what is at stake here. This is one of those matchups that you will not want to miss, as only one team will be crowned 6A champion on Saturday.
