However you may feel about the NBA in-season tournament, we can all agree on one thing, it’s more for us to bet on. The NBA added a in-season tournament, that’s making it’s debut this season.

What Is an In-Season Tournament?

There are six groups within the tournament. Not all groups coincide with divisions, either. Every team is competing in the mid season playoff, which is the only playoffs Trailblazers fans will see for a while. All six groups contain five teams. The group that he Suns are in features the Lakers, Grizzlies, Jazz and Blazers.

Essentially throughout the regular season when the teams see each other, it counts as pool play. The team with the best record within the group moves on. There is also a wild card team. From then on it’s single elimination.

So, Who Has the Best Odds to Win It?

As of right now the Bucks and the Celtics are tied at +900 odds to win the tournament. Nuggets are in third at +1000, and the Suns are in fourth at +1100.

Looking at the pools, all three teams above the Suns have a much easier way into the in-season tournament playoffs. Phoenix is in a pool that features two legitimate playoff teams, and two bubble playoff teams. The Blazers are in there too. Now each pool when you look at them, has about two competitive teams, and 2 or 3 non competitive teams.

How Can the Suns Win It?

Star power. The Phoenix Suns have an insane roster featuring three all-stars, and two MVP candidates. Everyone’s one knock against the Suns is their depth. The regular season, especially early on in the regular season, your stars are playing a lot. It isn’t until the last stretch (if you’ve already clinched the playoffs) that your stars are resting for the post season. However, all of that lies within the hands of Frank Vogel and how seriously he takes the in-season tournament.
