Scottsdale’s Max Homa Chips-In to Earn USA’s first Match Win

The drought is over. Max Homa, a Scottsdale resident, chipped in on the 16th hole to win the USA’s first match over the Sepp Straka and Shane Lowry team.

Homa and his partner, Brian Harman, were neck and neck with the European tandem through the front nine, but they won three straight holes to start the back nine and never looked back. The chip-in by Homa on the 16th gave them their second eagle of the back-nine. This win brought the Ryder Cup score to 7.5-2.5

This win came an hour after the US duo of Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka suffered the biggest loss in Ryder Cup history. Losing 8 of the 11 holes they played to Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg.

The US lost another match when Rory Mcllroy drained a 12-footer to beat the Justin Thomas and Jordan Speith power group to increase Europe’s lead to 8.5-2.5.

The Europeans are running away with this tournament. The US has no answers for these duos. At least Homa gave us something to cheer about.

Phil Mickelson shows his support for the US Ryder Cup Team.
