Davis turned 69 years old, today. He was drafted fifth overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 1977 NBA Draft. Davis came out of the gates fast as he averaged 24.2 points per game while shooting 52% from the floor as a rookie. He had one of the best rookie seasons of all-time as he won the rookie of the year award.

One of Davis’ nicknames is “The Man with the Velvet Touch” because of his silky smooth mid-range jumper. His rookie year was no fluke as he continued to score at a high and efficient rate throughout his time with the Suns. Davis averaged 20.5 points per game on 52% shooting from the floor in his 11 years with team.

In those highlights you can see why he scored 15,666 points while in a Suns uniform. This is still the most points scored in Suns history. Happy birthday to one of the most underrated players in NBA history, Walter Davis.
