Sophomore QB Marcel Jones of Chaparral has two D1 offers including ASU

Second-year quarterback Marcel Jones of Chaparral High School made a statement in his second showing for the 2023 season last Friday night against Shadow Ridge.

With a 42-0 win over the Stallions, the highly touted Sophomore threw for 225 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions with a 70% pass completion. He added an impressive 70 yards rushing in five carries. 

Last season, Jones was recognized as one of the top Freshman quarterbacks in Arizona and led his Freshman squad to a perfect winning season, beating every team except for one by 16 points or more. 

In his Freshman season, Jones  threw for 1,633 yards and 28 touchdowns with an 84.6% pass completion with only two interceptions. He added 47 rushing plays gaining 562 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He drew eyes during the offseason when he was named the quarterback MVP at Prep Red Zone Arizona followed by a showing at the ESPN 300 Elite camp. Jones announced via Twitter that he has received two D1 offers from UNLV and Arizona State University.
