Would Another Missed Playoff Mean No More Lovullo?

With a little over a month left in the season the Diamondbacks skipper, Torey Lovullo, might hold the most pressure in the entire clubhouse.

Torey Lovullo has been the Arizona Diamondbacks manager for the past seven seasons. In Lovullo’s tenure as the skipper the Diamondbacks have made the playoffs once, in his first season in 2017. Lovullo currently has a record of 447-520.

In Lovullo’s first three seasons as the Diamondbacks skipper, he held winning seasons in each of those. The following three seasons were not so successful. Two of those three seasons the Diamondbacks finished dead last in the NL West.

Although the Diamondbacks have corrected the ship back on path this season, the fans are not happy. ‘Fire Torey Lovullo’ talks massed twitter after Arizona went under .500 and on a nine-game losing streak. Since that time, the Diamondbacks are now holding a spot in the Wildcard.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though. Arizona has proven that sports are won through your runs. The Diamondbacks started off the season as one of, if not, the best team in baseball. Before the all-star break Arizona was first place in the division and looking like a contender.

After the all-star break, it was like night and day. For the first month after the all-star break the Diamondbacks seemed to be going back to their ways of the past. At one point the Diamondbacks were 5-17 post all-star break.

With all that being said, can the organization expect the fans to still show up to support their club? Diamondback die hards have expressed their opinions all over different social media platforms. General Manager Mike Hazen seems to like the culture in the clubhouse Lovullo has built, but what about a winning one on the field? What maters more?
