Johnson is ranked as a three-star recruit in the 247 Sports composite rankings. He is expected to play cornerback for ASU.

According to MaxPreps, Johnson had 10 receptions for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games last season as a wide receiver. He also returns punts and kicks for the Firebirds.

Arizona State was featured in Johnson’s top-3 schools, which were released on June 19, one day after he visited ASU. The Sun Devils beat out BYU and Kansas State for the dynamic playmaker. He was first offered by ASU on May 17.

Kenny Dillingham has worked hard to recruit the state of Arizona and Johnson’s commitment gives him the exact recruit he wants to attract to ASU. Chaparral is also Dillingham’s alma mater, making Johnson his first recruit from his former school. Arizona State special teams coordinator, Charlie Ragle, is also the ex-head coach of the Firebirds.

Dillingham teased the commitment for a week, and it was assumed it would be Johnson when he himself announced that he was making his decision on Thursday.

Johnson is now ASU’s fifth in-state pledge, as the Sun Devils look to establish themselves as a pipeline for Arizona high schoolers.
