Brandon Pfaadt continues to thrive in Triple-A Reno

Last night down in Triple-A, Brandon Pfaadt threw seven beautiful innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. Additionally, the 24-year-old right-hander walked zero batters.

This outing improved Pfaadt’s minor league record to 5-1 this season; he also brought his ERA down to 3.53 through ten starts.

While Pfaadt has not seen similar success in the majors this year, the Diamondbacks may want to take another look at bringing him back into the rotation.

Brandon Pfaadt started five games in May for the D-backs, and in those games he showed signs of promise, including a great outing against the Giants where he tossed five innings of one-run baseball. The Diamondbacks won this game 2-1.

On the flip side, Zach Davies, who was recently brought back from injury, has struggled immensely since his return.

After allowing six runs in four innings against the Giants on Friday, Davies 2023 record dropped to 1-4, and his ERA soared to 7.82. In total, the Diamondbacks are 2-4 on days where Davies starts since returning from his oblique injury.

The D-backs starting pitching rotation has been a work in progress all season. Despite holding the 2nd-best record in the National League, Arizona has a 4.45 team ERA, which is in the bottom 10 in the league.

Zach Davies next start is scheduled for Thursday against the Rays. This also happens to line up perfectly with Brandon Pfaadts next start in the minor leagues.

As the D-backs have fallen into a bit of a slump over the past few weeks, it may be time to make yet another change to their starting rotation.
