The Pirates offense came out roaring to defeat the Diamondbacks 13-3 in their series opener on Friday.

It was a rare off-night for one of the best pitchers in baseball, Zac Gallen. Without making it out of the fourth inning, Gallen allowed five earned runs, eight hits and walked four. The Pirates put up a whopping seven runs in the fourth inning due to two doubles, two singles, and two walks.

This was the first time Zac Gallen failed to make it past the fourth inning since June 10th of last season.

Maybe it was just karma after nailing a bird in pregame earlier this week.

In total, the Pirates outhit the Diamondbacks 17-4, the widest margin that the D-backs have seen all year.

Now, it will be Brandon Pfaadt on the mound, seeking to even up the series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM in Pittsburgh.
