Devan Cambridge transferred to Arizona State from Auburn before last season to play with his brother, Desmond, on this past season’s Sun Devil squad. After starting all but one of ASU’s games and helping lead the team to a 23-13 record and into the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the 6-foot-6 senior appears to be heavily considering a return to the Tigers after it was reported by CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein that Cambridge plans to visit the school next week.

In a strange turn of events, Cambridge appeared to have announced that he would return to the Sun Devils after posting a video on Instagram that in-part said “let’s run it back” nine days after the Sun Devils season ended on March 24. However, less than two weeks later on April 6, he said he was entering the transfer portal.
Devan and Desmond helped to re-establish the culture in the 2022-23 season for the Sun Devils, but now it seems ASU will be without both moving forward, as Desmond is out of college eligibility. In addition to Auburn, Cambridge is also considering Oregon, Texas Tech and Clemson. Cambridge played three seasons with Auburn and started over half of the games in his last two seasons for the Tigers. He averaged a career-high 9.8 points per game this season with ASU.
DJ Horne and Austin Nunez are the other two Sun Devils who are currently in the portal. Jamiya Neal, who originally entered the portal, withdrew from it, and Enoch Boakye committed to Fresno State earlier this week after transferring from ASU. Coach Bobby Hurley has added two players from the portal: Louisville forward Kamari Lands and junior college guard Malachi Davis. With Frankie Collins and Warren Washington entering their names into the NBA Draft, but leaving the door open for a return, significant roster overturn may once again be needed for the Sun Devils.
