Yesterday afternoon, the Phoenix Suns announced Gerald Madkins as Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Personnel Evaluation. Madkins is a former NBA player for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.
In this new role, Madkins will be leading the team’s approach to evaluating player personnel. In 2017-20, Madkins was an assistant general manager for the New York Knicks and previously served as director of basketball operations before going to director of scouting and then to assistant general manager.
Suns general manager and president of basketball operations James Jones issued a statement on the following news yesterday afternoon.
“We’re excited to have Gerald join our organization and welcome him to the Valley,” said Jones. “His background includes time with multiple successful organizations in a variety of roles, the experience that will be very valuable to our basketball operations. Gerald’s expertise and knowledge will elevate our program and we look forward to him joining us.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if more moves like this continue to take action for the Suns as they’re in lockstep in changing the culture around for the good in Phoenix, AZ.
