PHOENIX – Ryne Nelson isn’t just turning heads within the D-Backs organization, the rest of the league is catching on to how good he just is.

Shining at the right time:
To say that Ryne Nelson has been making the most of his opportunities is an understatement. Earlier today, Nelson pitched 6.2 innings and didn’t allow a run on four hits on Monday’s Memorial Day Matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ryne Nelson is making more than enough of a case to be a part of this starting rotation for Arizona. In his three starts, Nelson has a 1.69 ERA and has been absolutely dealing for the Snakes. The question has to be asked now, when Eduardo Rogriguez returns, what is the starting pitching rotation going to end up being?

E-Rod returning soon:
Eduardo Rodriguez found himself on the 15-day IL for left shoulder inflammation back on May 15th. Rodriguez has had a lackluster start to the 2025 season as his 1-3 record and 7.05 ERA would suggest. His month of May was detrimental for Arizona as he’s allowed 13 earned runs in 12 innings pitched over three appearances.

Over this past weekend, E-Rod mentioned he felt good after pitching in a three-inning 55-pitch simulated game on Saturday. His next steps would be throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday (Credit: Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports), as Arizona might be looking to bypass any minor-league rehab assignment and get him as back as possible.
Torey Lovullo on the possibility Eduardo Rodriguez enters a bullpen role when he returns from the IL:
“That conversation hasn’t even come up at all. … For me, E-Rod’s a starting pitcher and we’re gonna keep it that way.”

Is that necessarily the best case scenario for this Arizona ball club? Head coach Torey Lovullo has spoken out about how E-Rod will be rejoining the rotation. Though with Nelson’s recent performances, one would think that the D-Backs would have to revisit this conversation.
Ryne Nelson made his 3rd start of the season. He has thrown consecutive starts of 5.0+ IP & allowing 1 run or fewer
Eduardo Rodriguez has done that 1 time in 19 starts during his Dbacks tenure
Enough yo-yo’ing Nelly, keep him in the rotation and take ERod out
