PHOENIX – It was a home sweet home feeling as the D-Backs returned back to the desert and broke their losing streak as they shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5-0.

Ryne Nelson was phenomenal on the day pitching 6.2 innings without giving up a run with only allowing four hits. Nelson is making the conversation even harder for the D-Backs on who the odd man out will be in this rotation when Eduardo Rodriguez comes back from his 15-day IL stint due to left shoulder inflammation.

Arizona’s bats came alive on Monday early. The Snakes went out to a 2-0 lead up until Eugenio Suárez wanted in on the fun and hit a moonshot solo home run 433 feet that gave the D-Backs a 3-0 lead.

Josh Naylor broke this game open in the bottom of the fifth inning when he hit a fly ball that just cleared the wall in right field, giving Arizona their second home run of the day and a commanding 5-0 lead.

In the eighth inning, after a throwing error from Eugenio Suarez, Scott McGough walked two hitters as Pittsburgh had bases loaded with no outs. Justin Martinez entered and delivered just what the doctor ordered. Martinez was able to get Bryan Reynolds to strike out, Spencer Horwitz to hit a infield pop up, and then Joey Bart to only get a soft ground ball off right to Perdomo to get out of the inning without letting a runner cross home plate.

It’s a great feeling to bounce back after a sweep with a shutout, and it is everything the D-Backs can build back off of going forward. Arizona will look to take the series over the Pirates tomorrow night at Chase Field.
