It’s been a tough start for the Snakes during this season, though this week will hopefully be a little easier as it starts off with the Pittsburgh Pirates coming to the desert. Arizona should be able to capitalize after a frustrating series by taking care of one of the lower bottom-tier teams in the MLB.

On the mound for Memorial Day:
Ryne Nelson will be getting the start for Arizona. He has been making the most of his opportunities as the Snakes have been dealing with injuries. Nelson comes into Monday with a 1-1 record and a 4.60 ERA. , and his last start was against the Los Angeles Dodgers where he pitched five innings and only gave up one earned run on five hits. If Nelson can keep his pitch count steady, he could be in for a solid outing.

Diamondbacks pitcher Ryne Nelson (19) pitches in relief against the Dodgers in the ninth inning during a game at Chase Field on May 10, 2025, in Phoenix.
Pittsburgh will be rocking with left-hander Andrew Heaney on Monday night. Heaney enters his Memorial Day start with a 3-3 record and a 2.91 ERA. In his last three appearances, Heaney has yet to allow more than two earned runs.
It will be a nice change of pace for this Snakes team to face a struggling club as the Pirates are in last place in the NL Central. Arizona needs a refresher as they look to get back on track with the first pitch at Chase Field being at 5:10 p.m. PT.
