Gregory worked for the Suns for two years, serving in a consultant role before being hired as Vice President of Player Programming in June of 2024. He has a close relationship with Suns’ owner Mat Ishbia, which Gregory said is a key factor for the new role but also credits his body of work.
“No one’s going to out-work me,” Gregory said. “I think that’s a skill, that’s a talent… [Ishbia and I] are going to think differently, we’re going to be unified in our approach on a daily basis. And when you do that, then the results speak for themselves.”

The new general manager also emphasized the importance of leadership among the players, including Booker who has been more vocal about his thoughts on the team in recent years. Gregory mentions how Booker’s and other players’ veteran knowledge can help the team align itself with its identity.
“That collaborative effort within the NBA is becoming more and more crucial for success,” said Gregory. “… If you’re not in touch with [the players] and communicating with them, I think it can put you in a difficult spot.”
