The Arizona Diamondbacks will begin their 2025 season at home tonight at Chase Field against the Chicago Cubs.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Opening Day is finally here! The sights and sounds we all love are back and live in action. Game 1 of the 2025 MLB season is tonight for the D-Backs, as they begin their quest to win the division and make the postseason for a chance to get to the big dance. How will they stack up against their first opponent of the season, the Chicago Cubs?
Pitching Matchups:
Head Coach Torey Lovullo announced that he gave the Opening Day start to Zac Gallen rather than newly signed addition Corbin Burnes. Although he was injured during some parts, Gallen had a 14-6 record, with a 3.65 ERA including 156 strikeouts in 148 innings pitched in 2024.
Justin Steele gets the start for the Chicago Cubs, as he looks to avenge his first loss of the season in the Tokyo Dome series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In that game against LA, he gave up five runs on five hits along with two homeruns.
Starting lineups:
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell likes to switch things up with his batting order when it comes to guys like Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki. They will also see Nico Hoerner return to their lineup which could shift guys around. Add stars like Ian Happ and Dansby Swanson in there, and they have a good chance to compete with anybody.

The Arizona Diamondbacks definitely know how to his against left-handed pitching, especially last season. They were second in the league in team OPS with .284. D-Backs must rely on their stars, like Ketel Marte, to get on Steele early. Marte against lefties last season, slashed .342/.401/.679.
The Cubs are projected as being a playoff contender, and the Diamondbacks will look to avenge their unfortunate ending to last season. Two great teams going to battle, and it all starts tonight at Chase Field.
