Love has flashed the explosiveness, vision, and game-breaking athleticism that made him worthy of the No. 3 overall pick. Every highlight seems to reinforce the belief that Arizona found its next offensive superstar. Naturally, fans are asking the same question: if he’s that good, why isn’t he starting?

The answer may have less to do with talent than long-term strategy. Running back remains one of football’s most physically demanding positions. Teams around the league have learned that maximizing a young back’s career often means resisting the temptation to overload him immediately. With Allgeier handling early punishment and pass-protection responsibilities, Love can continue adjusting to NFL speed while staying fresh for the moments that matter most. It’s also fair to wonder if Arizona is thinking beyond this season. If the Cardinals believe they’re still building toward sustained contention, preserving their biggest offensive investment instead of giving him a majority of the touches as a rookie could pay dividends when the roster is ready to compete deep into January.

That doesn’t mean Love will stay second on the depth chart for long. Depth charts in August are snapshots, not permanent declarations. Coaches often reward veterans early while expecting rookies to earn larger roles as camp progresses. If Love continues producing in practices and preseason opportunities, his workload is almost certain to increase. For Cardinals fans, patience may be frustrating. But if this cautious approach helps transform Jeremiyah Love from an exciting rookie into a franchise-changing running back for years to come, waiting a few weeks could be one of the smartest decisions Arizona makes all season.
